FAQ

What is an outdoor photo session?

I am an outdoor photographer and I use natural light, so an outdoor photo session means that we choose an outdoor location together for your photo session. We go for something that suits your family, either somewhere I suggest or somewhere that has special meaning for your family.  These sessions lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours.

What is a home photo session?

A home photo session means that I travel to your home and we choose locations within your home for photographs, either inside or in your garden. This is ideal for young children, babies or newborns as you don’t have to worry about getting somewhere for a specific time.  There is also the option for outfit changes,

What is a mini session?

A mini session is an outdoor shoot that lasts for 30 minutes.  They are great for families who just want a few images during a particular season.  My Bluebell mini sessions are extremely popular as are Autumn mini sessions.  You receive 5 high quality digital images and also the option to purchase any additional images after you have seen the gallery.  The full cost of a mini session is payable in advance.

Do I have to choose a package in advance?

No. The packages are designed to help you get the most out of your photo session. You don’t need to choose one in advance. You can choose a package once you’ve seen all your images via a secure online gallery. The only thing you need to pay in advance is the session fee of £49.

I also offer mini sessions that are a lot shorter time wise and provide fewer images.  A mini session requires full payment in advance.

How many photos will we get to see?

This really depends on how many members of the family there are and what combinations we have done, but generally a full family session will lead to between 40-60 finished images.

For a mini session I aim for 15 – 20 images.

What happens if the weather is bad or my children are ill?

These things happen and can’t be helped, so I’m very used to rescheduling sessions. If the weather is bad or your child wakes up with a bug, it’s no problem at all to postpone. I normally get in touch a day or so before your session to confirm arrangements once I’ve checked the weather forecast. If you need to reschedule with me because of illness, then just let me know as soon as you can.

I’m not very comfortable in front of the camera – should you just concentrate on the kids?

I’ve been a family photographer for a while now and it’s very rare for me to meet clients that are at ease in front of the camera. However, I’m super passionate about my job and I see it as capturing the love and relationships in families. It’s very easy for Mum and Dad to take a step back and just ask for the children to be photographed but have a think about what your children might like to see when they are older. Do they just want to see pictures of themselves or do they want to see themselves being hugged, squeezed and cherished by their parents?  Of course, I won’t force anyone in front of the camera. I’m very informal and friendly and just want to do the best job for you. You can decide how much involvement you’d like in the session and even if we only take a few family photos before concentrating on the children, I promise you, it’ll be worth it.

What if my children misbehave, have a tantrum, don’t listen etc.?

Please do not worry about your children’s behaviour at all. First of all, I have two of my own, so I know what it’s like trying to get them to do anything. Secondly, I’ve been doing this job for some time and so I’ve pretty much seen it all. Thirdly, I’ve worked in preschools (need I say more?). Family photo sessions are all about capturing your children as they are. Yes, it would be nice if they sat still for the odd moment, but I’m in no hurry at all and if they take a while to warm up (or calm down) then that’s fine by me. There’s no time limit on the session (it’s normally around 2 hours, as that is how long children can generally tolerate).  There’s plenty of time to give them a snack and drink and to have a rest.

What happens after the session?

I normally take around 2 weeks to process your images and prepare a slideshow. During that time, I’ll be in touch to provide you with a link to your gallery and a password so you can view them in the comfort of your own home with plenty of time and no pressure to decide which images or package you would like.

After you have chosen which package you would like and which images you’d like to have printed I then require payment for your chosen package, before delivering the final gallery and prints.

Do the packages include the session fee?

No, the session fee is £49 and the packages are detailed separately.

I’m worried about how much it’s all going to cost.

I understand that booking a family photo session is a luxury and you want to make sure that your money is well spent. I work on a package basis, which means that all clients choose one of my available packages.

I’m very up front about my pricing. There are no hidden extras or added costs to the complete packages. There is only an added cost to the mini sessions if you decide that you would like to upgrade with additional images, prints or products.  A family photo session is an investment, for sure. You will spend time planning the shoot, working out your outfits, attending the photo shoot itself and viewing the images. You can then choose the best package for you. My most popular package is the complete collection. This package is very popular with families as they love all the images from their session and like to have the digital copies. This package also includes a number of prints to ensure they not only go away with the whole session digitally but they also have a selection of high quality bespoke prints too.

How long will it take to receive my prints or products?

Prints normally take around a week to arrive. I’ll get in touch with you as soon as I have them and we can arrange collection or delivery to you.

If you would like to order other products from me then these will be priced separately to the package and may take longer to arrive. All my products are handmade at a professional photo lab. They normally take between 2-3 weeks. Again, I’ll be in touch to arrange collection or delivery with you as soon as they arrive.

How do I book a session?

Please get in touch with me, either via email – sarah@sarahmannphotography.com or through my contact page. Once we’ve made contact, I’ll provide details of available dates, we can discuss everything and I can answer any questions you have.  If you would like to go ahead and book, I will require the session fee to confirm your date in the diary.

I don’t know what to wear, can you help?

Yes, please get in touch as different colours look best at different times of the year.  If you want ideas Pinterest is always a good port of call to search. It is important to think about what you’re all going to wear though. I always advise that you try and blend together. There’s no need for matching outfits but just make sure that your clothes look good together. If you lay things out on your bed and look at them as a whole, you should be able to see whether they look good or not, unless you are my husband! (He’s red/green colourblind!).

Avoid bold patterns, writing and pictures on clothes as they can be distracting. Also, try and avoid very bright colours like neons. The star of the image is you and not your clothing.

Do you sell gift vouchers?
